STEP i: Cut YOUR FABRIC INTO A rectangle

Cut your fabric into a rectangle the dimensions y'all want your concluding banner plus add together two inches to the width and iii inches to the summit.

Imprint Dimensions = (Final Banner Width + 2 inches) 10 Terminal Banner Meridian + 3 inches)

My banner is x" wide x 15" tall.

Either a rotary cutter, fabric scissors or regular scissors will work for cut your fabric. I used this self-healing mat because its measurement grid makes measuring your project super piece of cake.

Footstep two: CUT YOUR FABRIC INTO A PENNANT SHAPE

Next, mark the center of the short end of the fabric. This will be the center of the triangle yous volition cut out to brand the pennant shape.

Measure 2 inches in from that middle marking and make a marker. Use a ruler to draw diagonal lines from that marker to the two corners of the cloth. The photo beneath is probably easier to empathize than me explaining information technology. You tin can adjust the size of this triangle if you desire a lilliputian different await.

Cutting along the two diagonal lines to achieve your pennant shape.

STEP 3: HEM THE BANNER EDGES

Turn on your EasyPress 2 and fix to 315°F. In one case information technology'south warm (this is quick), do a quick exam on a fabric flake to double check that the heat won't harm your textile.

Cut a strip of hem record to the length of one fabric border. Line the hem tape up flush with the fabric edge and fold the textile over to create a straight hem. If you accept trouble folding the corners neatly, cutting the hem tape at a diagonal will help.

For the inside bespeak of the triangle, cutting a straight line i inch long. This will allow you to fold the fabric over onto each diagonal slice of hem record.

Carefully identify your hot EasyPress 2 over the folded fabric for a few seconds to activate the iron-on hem record. You don't demand to move the EasyPress 2 around similar you would an iron, instead but hold it in place with light pressure for a few seconds before moving it.

Echo on each edge of the fabric.

For the top edge of your banner, fold over an extra inch of fabric then you terminate up leaving an open up gap between the hem record and the folded top edge of the fabric. This creates a pocket-size slot that y'all tin can slide a dowel through.

After you cease hemming your DIY textile banner, turn off the EasyPress two and gear up it aside for later.

STEP 4: CREATE YOUR DESIGN IN CRICUT Blueprint Space

Open Cricut Design Space (free software that comes with your Cricut machine) on your computer or phone and create your alphabet.

I used the Cricut Sans font and made capital letters, then arranged them to fit the size of my material imprint. Make sure you create the letters all equally individual text boxes so yous take the flexibility to easily rearrange them.

It'due south besides helpful to add together a rectangle shape to your project that matches the size of your banner to serve as a guide for your letters.

cricut-design-space-screenshot

Once you are happy with the layout, change the colors of each alphabetic character. I chose 3 pretty colors of iron-on vinyl and used alphabetic character colors that corresponded with the colors of my vinyl then I could visualize the terminate result.

Randomly alternate your colors throughout your design until yous like the await.

cricut-design-space-screenshot

In one case you are satisfied with the design, select all of the messages of one colour and cull the "Adhere" option from the bottom correct bill of fare on your screen. Repeat this for all of your colors.

Past attaching the messages, y'all are telling your Cricut machine to cut them out in that exact layout which is important considering otherwise, your automobile volition jumble all of the letters together so you waste equally little vinyl every bit possible.

Here's a screenshot of what I mean by your letters getting jumbled if you lot forget to attach them to each other. Don't practise this or you will accept to cut, position, and atomic number 26 on each private letter in the proper spot on your banner.

Step 5: CUT OUT YOUR Blueprint

Once your design is fix, click "Brand Information technology" and double check that everything volition cut correctly. Your Cricut will automatically position each different colour of your design on its ain cut mat and so you tin can cut them out of different sheets of material.

cricut-design-space-screenshot

On the side by side screen, you volition be asked to select the type of material you are cutting. You lot'll also need to mirror your image for iron-on vinyl (this is an important footstep!).

cricut-design-space-screenshot

Now stick a sheet of atomic number 26-on onto your cut mat, glossy plastic side face down.

Load the cutting mat into your Cricut and printing the flashing button on your machine to brainstorm cutting.

Once one color is done cutting, gently remove the iron-on cloth from your cutting mat and identify the next color of material onto the mat.

Insert the mat dorsum into your machine and follow the on-screen prompts to cut the side by side colour.

Here's a Youtube video that shows every little footstep of the cutting procedure:

STEP half dozen: WEED YOUR DESIGN

One time your design is cut out, you lot'll need to remove the backlog vinyl from the shiny plastic backing. This process is called "weeding". The weeding tool has a lilliputian claw at the terminate that helps choice up all of the little pieces like the middle of O'due south, for instance.

Adjacent, slowly pull off all of the blank vinyl and then yous are eventually left with your individual letters stuck to the plastic backing.

In the beneath photograph, yous can see how my silvery letters looked on the plastic backing one time I finished wedding off the excess vinyl cloth.

Echo this pace for all of your colors.

Quick Tip: Weeding is all-time done with bright light so you can distinguish your messages and know which function of the cloth needs to be removed. The Cricut BrightPad is non a necessity just I definitely find it helpful when weeding. You place your iron-on material on top of the BrightPad then it line shines through the cut lines making it easier to see your design.

Stride 7: HEAT Upwardly THE EASYPRESS 2 AND Utilise YOUR Pattern TO THE Banner

Turn on your EasyPress 2 and set the temperature. Your temperature volition vary based on the blazon of material you are using.

Check out the Cricut EasyPress Reference Guide. to encounter what temperature yous should use for your projection. This nautical chart will likewise tell yous how much time to put on your EasyPress timer.

The Cricut EasyPress 2 is designed specifically for iron-on projects like this ane. Yes, you can utilise a household iron. But an iron doesn't estrus evenly and you'll discover it more difficult to accomplish a flawless finish.

I shared a ton of details almost the EasyPress two in final week's post if you desire to read a lot more detail nigh what it does and how it works.

cricut-easypress

Stick one of your plastic sheets of letters downwardly onto your DIY material banner. Take extra care to center your design and brand certain it's straight. I like to use a level to make certain my designs don't wind upwards crooked.

alphabet-banner-and-easypress

Place your project on top of an EasyPress mat or a folded towel to protect your work surface from the heat.

Identify your warm EasyPress two down on height of your letters and set the timer per the instructions on the Cricut EasyPress Reference Guide.

Instead of moving your EasyPress around like an fe, you want to hold it in one place for the full length of fourth dimension. Then pick it upward and place it downwardly on whatever other areas that however need to exist ironed.

Bank check the Cricut EasyPress Reference Guide to run across if you should skin of your plastic backing canvass warm or cold.

Warm Peel = Remove the plastic bankroll canvas while your project is still warm to the touch but no longer hot. Y'all tin still unremarkably peel it up if it cools completely, but that will require more endeavour.

Cool Peel = Remove the plastic backing canvass in one case your projection has cooled completely. Your iron-on material may stretch, pare, or bubble if yous remove the backing while information technology's nonetheless warm.

Repeat this footstep for all of your letter colors. Since you lot cut them out in the exact arrangement they need to be, it is pretty easy to line upwards the next fix of colors with the ones that are already ironed on.
